Scarpetta
Title: Scarpetta (Book 16/16 in the Kay Scarpetta series)
Author: Patricia Cornwell
Number of Pages: 500
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Book Number/Goal: 29/50 in 2009
Review: She's back! After muddling through the last few books simply because I already fell in love with the characters, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book! The characters that I love so much were not only back, but in their element. I still like the beginning of the series (written in first person) a lot better, but I think this is the best one since Cornwell made the switch.
I was extremely happy with the relationships established, strengthened, and explored. I also incredibly pleased that everything was tied up at the end of the book. I like neat tidy little packages (bow preferable) and this gave me just that. I'm not patient, and I don't like waiting for resolution.
Notable differences in this book from previous books - the whodunit was possible to figure out...it wasn't some random character inserted in the last 1/4 of the book. There were clues as to this person's guilt. Also, the mini-mystery to be solved was a nice addition. Of note, it was actually more difficult to figure out than the murder!
