My Rating: 2.5/5

A man is murdered in the church he founded in Northern Sweden and Sanna Strandgard is charged with her brother's murder. She turns to Rebecka Martinson, her childhood friend who is now a tax lawyer in Stockholm, for support. Apart from dealing with the murder case, Rebecka has to confront her own past as well.

So far, so good. It all sounded really interesting and I was looking forward to reading the book. It's the first in a series of six but I'm not sure I'll be reading the other books. Maybe a lot got lost in the translation but I have no idea why this book won an award. The characters are bland (and there are too many of them anyway) and the writing style is stilted.

If you'd like to read thrillers by Scandinavian authors, try Hakan Nesser, Arnaldur Indridason, Ake Edwardson or Henning Mankell.
