Review:
This is a Discworld novel where the main characters have to save the world from a devious plan to stop the time. The best part of the book is language - it's witty, elegant and very quotable. Also, the subject matter leads to wonderful philosophical insights into the nature of time, history and what does it mean to be a human. Unfortunately all the characters are either boring or annoying (though the Auditors are kind of amusing), and the mysteries are not really intriguing - it didn't keep me on the edge wanting to know what comes next, the plot seems to be only a framework for humor and interesting sci-fi concepts. Anyway, the fun and thoughtful parts make up for the boring parts, so overall it's still worth reading.

Heh. You're probably the only person I've come across yet who didn't at least have an interest in Susan Sto Helit. Given you've read and disliked Discworld books before because of what they are, I'm not sure why you keep trying? They're all of a similar style, after all...

I wouldn't say I "dislike" them! I love the writing style; it's just that these novels feel more like essays to me than fiction. And I find Susan the most annoying character of all ;) I simply can't imagine how anyone with any supernatural talents (or any kind of talents, really) would actually *want* to lead a normal life instead. Maybe it's a bad kind of envy ;) because my own life is as mundane as it can get, and I can't sympathize with anyone who would choose such a drag when they have a choice.

Besides, I don't know all the characters yet... I really liked Mr. Teatime from "Hogfather", and Lord Vetinari from other books (which I haven't read fully yet, just the quotes).
