Book 5: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Title: Catching Fire
Author: Suzanne Collins
Number of Pages: 391 pages
Book Number/Goal: 5/10 for 2012
My Rating: 5/5

Amazon Summary: Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Review: Damn, this was even better than the first book! Partly, I think, because I was 100% unspoiled and thus had no idea what was going to happen or even what was the plot. So much I wasn't expecting!

At first I was meh about the idea of another Hunger Games, but it didn't feel like retreading the first book at all. I love how everyone fought together, though, Katniss kind of annoyed me with how slow she was on the uptake sometimes. I really liked Finnick and Johanna, too. In the first book, the only minor character I was really enthusiastic about was Cinna. (OMG CINNA! D: D: D: I wonder if we will ever learn more about him. Don't tell me yes or no, though!)

Can't wait to start Mockingjay!

I also read this trilogy just recently and loved it, though the 1st book is still my favorite - it had more tension and seemed more "fresh", with the reader learning the rules and details of the new universe. The beginning of the 2nd book felt quite boring until the Games started... Indeed, the 2nd Hunger Games were substantially different. Agreed about the best characters. (I'd personally love to meet Seneca Crane again, but it's because of my fixation on villains, people in power, and game developers ;)

Have fun with the 3rd book!

(dammit, could've added 3 more books to my counter if I had enough motivation to start the reading challenge anew)
