Book Review: Crossroads of Freedom - James McPherson
Title: Crossroads of Freedom
Author: James M. McPherson
Number of Pages: 224 pages
Book Number/Goal: 39/75
My Rating: 4/5
My Review: Crossroads of Freedom tells about the events leading to the bloodiest day in US History: September 17, 1862. During the battle of Antietam, approximately 6,500 soldiers were killed and another 15,000 wounded. In this book, McPherson uses personal accounts (letters, diaries, newspaper reports) to explain why Antietam, not Gettysburg, was the pivotal battle of the Civil War. Crossroads of Freedom is well written, well researched and very readable. Recommended.
