Title: Ecological Inteligence
Author: Daniel Goleman
Number of Pages: 247
Genre: Non-Fiction
Book Number/Goal: 31/50 in 2009
Review: This book is definitely a worthwhile read. It's not a "how to" book by any means. It's not a detailed list of products that are "worthwhile" or "green". Instead, it tells you how to get the information you need, and more importantly what information you need and why it's important.
Goleman does provide two resources for finding information: GoodGuide Inc. (http://www.goodguide.com/) and SkinDeep (http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/). At times portions of the book felt like an infomercial, but the benefit of these resources outweighed the slight annoyance.
And, as a side note, this amused me (I really need to get out more, and perhaps not read when I'm tired and punchy):
Researchers in New Zealand mapped the genome of ruminant animals like sheep and cows to discover the genes that regulate flatulence, in order to develop a vaccine that will greatly reduce "flatulent emissions" from livestock--which now account for 28 percent of human-related methane buildup.
My question, did the researches include that project on their CVs???
