Name:
chosenmortal
Goal: 75 books during 2009
Definition of "book": anything i haven't read before, graphic novels or comic anthologies count, single comic books do not.
Books read so far: 29, and i keep track at goodreads; you can friend me here, just drop a comment here so i know who you are to friend back. XD
A little about my goal and my reading habits: i'm a pretty avid reader; my lunch breaks at work are pretty much all spent reading, and i get in about an hour each night as well, sometimes more. last year i set myself a goal of 50 books and passed it by 12; this year i'm going for more and hoping to pass it again. i'm writing a book currently, and i'm a firm believer in stephen king's assertion that the best writer is one who reads as much as he or she can. i will read almost anything in any genre (except for romance, really) and am looking forward to this comm to give me some good recommendations. :)
Title: Gloriana
Author: Michael Moorcock
Number of Pages: 496
Genre: Fantasy
Book Number/Goal: 27 of 100 to be read in a year
Review: from my goodreads page......... this book was quietly awesome. it's a tribute to mervyn peake, and as such the style is opulent and highly descriptive. the plot is interesting without being ostentatious-- at no point did i think "i can't put this book down", but yet, i read it steadily until i was done. there's something about it that doesn't let go, and while i could recognize why it's not a hugely popular book, it was extremely well written and i enjoyed the hell out of it. definitely one i'd recommend to others, and one i'm likely to reread.
