Title: The Changeover
Author: Margaret Mahy
Number of pages: 214
Genre: Fantasy, young adult
Book number/Goal: 4 of 20 to be read during the summer.

Review: The Changeover is "a supernatural romance", thus combining two of my favourite genres in one book. Slight spoilers. )

Mahy won the Carnegie Medal for this book in 1984, which, IMO, was well-deserved. The characters are well-drawn; Laura is on the brink of adulthood and her confusion over it and the situation she finds herself in are very believably described, and Sorry for his part is equal parts an enigmatic witch and an uncertain teenager. The characters teeter between childhood and adulthood, and underneath the supernatural elements, The Changeover is really a novel about growing up.

Title: Tee (Tea)
Author: Kyllikki Villa
Number of pages: 125
Genre: Non-fiction
Book number/Goal: 2 of 20 to be read during the summer

Review: Villa's 1984 book is the first Finnish book about tea that I've been able to find. Yet even though it's 25 years old, it is still a perfectly serviceable book. Villa talks about the origins of tea, tea producing countries, different types of tea and ways to prepare them, and of course, tea and Finland. I enjoyed the book a lot and I will try to purchase a copy of it if I can find a seller.

Name: [personal profile] anehan
Goal: 20 books read during the summer (15 May-31 August)
Definition of "book": Everything counts--graphic novels, textbooks, non-fiction, plays, poetry collections, re-reads etc.--within reason.

A little about my goal and my reading habits: I used to read voraciously, but lately I've been reading very little. I thought the summer would be a good time to pick up the habit again. Mostly what I've been reading lately has been non-fiction, so I'm hoping to read some novels and other fiction during the summer as well.
